The rains reported during the days three and four of October increased from 77 to 83 the percentage of accumulated water in the reservoirs of Isla de la Juventud, as was known at a meeting of the Municipal Defense Council (CDM), where measures are adopted before the proximity of hurricane Delta, already with category two.
Engineer Yaisel Cobarrubias Bravo, delegate of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources in the territory, reported that 10 of the 14 artificial reservoirs are above one hundred percent of their filling capacity and relieve their waters, while El Abra and La Fe store the 99 and 87 percent of the liquid, respectively.
He previously commented that this territory has a total storage capacity of 229 million 600 thousand cubic meters (m³) of the vital liquid to support the demand for organisms, among which agriculture stands out. CDM authorities indicated keeping two of the dams under strict surveillance because they are upstream from neighboring settlements and economic targets in case of heavy rains. Luis Sánchez, head of the forecasting department of the territorial delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, reported that in the first four days of the current the accumulated rainfall was higher than 154.2 millimeters of rainfall, historical average for the tenth month of the year.
