The Municipal Defense Council (CDM) - in a reduced composition - closed two of the three active transmission events of COVID-19 in Isla de la Juventud, after the health quarantine ended today.
Israel Velázquez Batista, director of the Public Health Sector, reported that the period of epidemiological surveillance with movement restriction ended for the 38 cases in isolation from La Fe and the 10 belonging to the Popular Council of Sierra Caballo, while it remains under follow-up that of the rural town La Tumbita.
The last active event is expected to close on March 2, with a record of 14 infected and a total of 133 contacts, of which 49.6 percent have been studied so far, said the highest health authority in the municipality special.
Zunilda García Garcés, president of the CDM, urged the residents of both communities to comply with the biosafety protocols, in light of the complex epidemiological panorama in the territory, due to which new restrictions were decreed in confirmed positive cases of the infectious disease.
In order to stop the transmission chain in the shortest possible time, in the second Cuban island it was decided - from February 20 to March 5 - to limit the road traffic of transport and people, increase teleworking and remote work , modify the working day until 3:00 pm and close commercial, financial, and legal services at 5:00 pm, among other measures.
In the current phase of limited autochthonous transmission, these indications help to intensify surveillance in the light of the adverse epidemiological scenario with a report of 96 infected by the SARS CoV-2 virus, in the last 15 days, 22 controls of active foci and 1,010 people followed by Primary Health Care, Velázquez Batista stressed.
The health authority stated that from November 23 to date, 265 confirmed positive cases of this infectious disease have been recorded in the special municipality, 14 of them imported and 251 indigenous, mainly due to violations of biosafety protocols.
