Isla de la Juventud - a territory with a low prevalence of COVID-19 - will once again make containment measures against the pandemic more flexible, without neglecting epidemiological surveillance at borders and biosafety protocols.
In a work session of the Temporary Group for the prevention and control of the new coronavirus, the mayor Adiel Morera Macías reported that, from this July 24, swimming pools, restaurants and palates will be available to the public at 50 percent of their installed capacities.
Similarly, bars, state and non-state cafeterias will provide service on site, for which they must strictly comply with hygienic-sanitary standards, he said. He specified that the measures prescribed by the Directorate of Public Health are of strict compliance for all establishments, among which are to respect the physical distance (two meters between the tables) and to maintain the premises with natural ventilation.
Public passenger transport, both state and private, will serve 100 percent of its seating capacity, he said. To avoid the crowding of people, the authorities of the territory ratify the prohibition of holding public shows, popular festivals, community anniversaries, therefore, the Discotheques, Cabaret, cultural areas, the Plaza de la Mecánica, or the Cultured Houses will not work either.
In order to avoid large concentrations of people, access to the beaches will be limited, while mass transportation will not be carried out aboard state buses, or private porters, there will be no place for cultural and / or recreational activities, it was known .
The Temporary Group authorizes the realization of the excursions planned for the summer by the Flora and Fauna and Commerce companies; the use of sports facilities for physical activities and sports; opening of Religious Temples and gymnasiums to 50 percent of their capacity.
As the special municipality remains in the phase of limited autochthonous transmission, it will keep the maritime and air borders closed and establishes that all activities always conclude at 12 at night.
Although the territory does not show indicators of limited autochthonous transmission, the call of the local authorities is for the correct and obligatory use of the nasobuco, to maintain the physical distance between people and in the institutions to preserve the disinfection points.
Zunilda García Garcés, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary, insisted that human life is a priority for the Cuban social system, therefore, she called for individual responsibility to keep the SARS CoV-2 virus at bay, causing the disease.
Israel Velázquez Batista, municipal director of Public Health, insisted on the need for the population not to lose the perception of risk, although 61.1 percent of the population is already immunized with the anti-COVID-19 Abdala vaccine.
The doctor specified, prior to the ACN, that although the second Cuban insula shows low complexity in the transmission of the pandemic, the presence of patients constitutes a clinical-epidemiological risk due to the high transmissibility of the SARS-CoV-2 variants that circulate in the country.
In view of the dangerous situation, the temporary work group modified the action protocol by limiting access to Cayo Largo del Sur where the transmission of the infectious-contagious disease is controlled in that tourist pole and, for the moment, the return to the home of the 212 workers who remain on that islet, he stressed.
He pointed out that the creation of conditions for the isolation of patients, suspects and direct contacts was one of the successes of the Municipal Defense Council, as well as the control of air and maritime borders to prevent the spread of the pandemic, ways by which it has the disease entered the territory.
The existence of the molecular biology laboratory, number 27 of the network of these diagnostic centers for the fight against COVID-19 in Cuba, the use of the UMELISA SARS-CoV-2 antigen diagnostician in the detection of the pathogen germ and more half of the immunized population help to reinforce the control of the pandemic in Isla de Juventud, he said.
