The Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca evaluated this Saturday in Isla de la Juventud the articulation of the local development program with the economic-social strategy of Cuba, a purpose still far from the expected results.
In this sense, it was clear to administrators, managers, businessmen and presidents of Popular Councils that the special municipality is urged to overcome the deficit of inputs and find solutions in the face of territorial self-sufficiency from the chain and application of science and innovation.
During an extensive tour of several productive bases, the leader confirmed the possibility of taking advantage of the quality of the soil in the agricultural area of West Port, an area with more than two thousand hectares (ha) poorly exploited, where a pole of strategic crops could grow, that substitute imports and also classify as exportable items.
The government visit, in which the integral development program is monitored, identified deficiencies in the delay in civil works for the supply of water, the leveling of the land in search of higher yields in rice cultivation, the modernization of the process industrialization of this food and the delay in the procedures associated with bank loans.
Regarding the demand for certified seeds that ensure compliance with the sowing plans for fruit trees, vegetables and viands, Tapia Fonseca verified the good vegetative development of seven varieties of cassava clones, as well as the quality for the commercialization of peppers, melon and pumpkin, thanks to the farming of peasants such as Runiasky Mayo and René Rodríguez.
Achieving food sovereignty of the special municipality must be based on the genetic improvement of the mass of small livestock, the organization of processes, the productive chain, communication, the competence of the management cadres, training and the realization of development projects local, he said.
The agenda also included the analysis of compliance with social investments, the production of construction materials, the housing program, the status of maritime passenger and cargo transportation, as well as land and area, the improvement of Internal Trade, tourism for nationals, the Public Health system and community services.
