Biofactory for the production of vitro plants and natural biofertilizers is one of the proposals of local development projects of Isla de la Juventud to the Ministry of Economy and Planning in order to minimize the impact of the blockade.
This undertaking proposed by the Pinera University will save the coffers of the Cuban State 17,500 USD for import substitution in view of the measures still in force adopted by the Trump administration against Cuba, which have become handicaps for the fulfillment of development goals and objectives sustainable.
Rolando Linares, Director of Economy and Planning, exclusively told the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that this biofactory is a sustainable alternative to increase the agricultural productivity of the soils of the second Cuban island by obtaining seedlings and seeds. high quality and pathogen free.
According to the authors of the project, the biofactory for the production of vitroplants is a technological innovation for seed production, with which a greater productive potential will be guaranteed, as it is a phytogenetic control strategy that reduces biological effects on crops.
In this sense, the realization of this project becomes an opportunity to reduce imports of seeds of high genetic and agronomic quality, which are increasingly expensive in the world market as technological development and plant gene banks are among the consequences of the blockade.
Meanwhile, the production of biol will replace 50 percent of the imported mineral fertilizers that reach this special municipality and consequently reduce the use of agrochemicals, whose impact translates into environmental pollution and damage to human health, as signed in the document.
The specialized literature refers that Biol is an excellent foliar fertilizer, the result of fermentation for two or three months in a plastic drum and under anaerobic conditions of different animal excreta, harvest remains, among others, used to improve the vigor of the crop, which helps to more effectively withstand the attack of pests and diseases.
Likewise, Linares stressed that Labiofam in Isla de la Juventud needs to expand capacities to guarantee the island a greater availability of endogenously manufactured bioproducts -at least 120 tons (t) as an annual average-, for the production of grains, viands and vegetables in hundreds of t in the year.
With this project, new sources of employment will be created and the relationship between the University and the agricultural business sector will be consolidated, added the manager. Guaranteeing technological support for the conservation and use of plant genetic resources, as well as improving the quality of seeds to increase agricultural and forest yields is anchored in the Plant Genetic Resources and Seeds Policy of the Ministry of Agriculture and has its correlation in Guideline 160 of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution.
Biofactory to produce vitro plants and natural biofertilizers is one of the four projects presented to the MEP with the purpose of including it in the economic plan, which is a priority in the country, as it responds to the Food Program and pays tribute to sustainable development and sovereignty food, I limit.
