After planting a hectare of sweet potatoes on the estate owned by Osmar Garcés of the Cooperativa de Creditos y Servicios Ovidio Pantoja, young producers confirmed that their priority today is to produce food.
Still with their shirts soaked with sweat and the satisfaction of their duty, these children of peasants, the majority, exchanged with authorities of the territory, the municipal bureau of the Association of Small Farmers and the Union of Young Communists, not to demand resources before the current deficiencies, but to offer their hands and wills in order to increase the crops on their farms.
There was talk of generalizing agroecology with endogenous resources, a practice led by the producer Osmar Garcés, who offered the newcomers an explanation of the benefits of bioproducts, both for crops and for the health of consumers.
The nearly 20 boys and girls, representing the 17 productive forms of this Special Municipality, assured that in each of their cooperatives there is clarity of the mission that the country demands and that in their efforts and results will be the guarantee of food of the little more than 84,000 pine trees.
Yander Zayas, first secretary of the municipal committee of the UJC, reported that the organization has 11 base committees with 86 militants in that sector and must work to add more young people in that sector.
"One who joins in, is a committed young man and is, then, a young man who will contribute and seek solutions and alternatives to fulfill the task of producing food, today of vital importance for the territory and for the country," he said.
The meeting also served to visualize other variables of youth participation in supporting production, now with the intention of expanding the work areas to farms owned by usufructuaries, who in Isla de la Juventud guarantee 80 percent of the food consumed .
The meeting also became recognition of outstanding young people during COVID-19, for their donations of food to isolation centers and quarantine areas and in general to young pineros for participating in the red zones, organizing the queues next to the Minint, sustainability and energy saving.
For her part, Zunilda García, first secretary of the municipal committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, called on them to join the popular movement Dare to be more, a strategy that aims to encourage the participation of the pineros in the economic and social transformations that the Island of youth.
