The Solemn Assembly set for December 17 of this year stands out among the commemorative activities on Isla de la Juventud in light of the 150 anniversaries of José Martí's presence in El Abra and 190 of the foundation of Nueva Gerona, reported Mariolis Pérez Domínguez , vice president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power (AMPP). According to the official document issued by that vice presidency, there will be space to talk about "Martí and Fidel and their steps on the Island"; exhibition on Community Work Integrated by the Popular Council; presentation of a book on pine traditions by Wiltse Peña in the Santa Fe, Pueblo Nuevo and Argelia-Victoria Popular Councils, as well as visits to museums, tours of areas of agriculture and jobs related to food production. The text refers that the Special Bulletin number 1 will also be presented in greeting to the 190th birthday of the city, founded as a town on December 17, 1830 by edict of the Spanish monarch Fernando VII, to put an end to the smuggling of privateers and piracy in this insular geography.
