Replica of the ship El Pinero is granted to personalities of Isla de la Juventud

Magalis Reyes Espinosa and Modesto Sánchez Pérez received in this city the replica of the ship El Pinero, which is granted by the Municipal Assembly of People's Power in Isla de la Juventud to personalities of history, culture and sports.
Magalis was deserving of the highest status granted by the local government for its extensive service record to the work of the Revolution that began as a member of the July 26 movement in the fight against the Batista dictatorship, while Modesto stands out for its dedication for decades as a carrier.
This replica has been awarded to Fidel Castro, Raúl Castro, Juan Almeida, Jesús Montané and Ramiro Valdés, protagonists of the Moncada epic, and to art personalities such as Rosa Fornés, Juan Formel, Silvio Rodríguez and Arnold Dixon, and to the outstanding athletes of the town Carlos Yánez and Michel Enríquez.
The recognition is based on the ship in which the group of survivors of the assaults on the Guillermo Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks traveled to Havana, after being released from Presidio Modelo, on May 15, 1955, thanks to popular pressure.
In addition, in the X extraordinary session of the seventeenth term of office, the town's coat of arms was given to the fisherman Ángel Bravo, the farmer Francisco Hernández and Jorge Más, director of the El Abra restaurant, one of the model units in Cuba in the sector of the gastronomy.
During the solemn session, the historian of the city Roberto Únger and the doctor Víctor Doeste deserved the status of Illustrious Son, while almost thirty people obtained the status of the 190th Anniversary of the city of Nueva Gerona for their significant contribution to socioeconomic development of the territory in different stages of history.
Marbelis Matos received special recognition from the Assembly on behalf of the members of the Pinera Brigade Henry Reeve, Dr. Mariano Valle representing the medical and paramedical personnel who were in the red zone in the difficult days of confronting COVID-19.
