The production and marketing of excellently made wooden furniture is one of the four local development projects that Isla de la Juventud includes in the economic plan for the first time.
Rolando Linares, director of Economy and Planning, told the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that, anchored in the country's economic and social development strategy, this project - by boosting local industry - will satisfy the domestic demand and the sector of the tourism, both in the special municipality and in Cayo Largo del Sur.
According to the market study, the purpose is to produce furniture whose prices - in relation to the quality of the wood and finish - respond to the needs and expectations of the population and the hotel network of the Gran Caribe Group in the Los Canarreos archipelago.
Linares pointed out. He emphasized that local development stimulates the management of knowledge and innovation and the promotion of projects that generate economic-productive, socio-cultural, environmental and institutional transformations, with the aim of raising the quality of life of the population.
The productive chain is equally viable in order to enhance the capacities of the participating actors (state and non-state) and take advantage of endogenous resources, which ultimately provide financing to the account of the Municipal Administration Council for the realization of other projects, he limited.
One of those inserted in this undertaking destined to produce wood goods and services, as well as decorative and utilitarian art is the plastic artist Carlos Marcoleta Tejeda, in charge of a carpentry workshop attached to the Subsidiary of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods in the special municipality.
A staff of 20 workers is in charge of turning the wood into house fourniture, office furniture (desks, tables, shelves, armchairs, chairs) and living room and dining room games, among others, as well as handicrafts, for spiritual enjoyment or exhibitions, he told.
He added that among the first actions of the carpentry project is the transfer of the workshop headquarters to a disused warehouse of the red ceramic factory belonging to the construction materials company, where they are currently working on the technical-constructive improvement of that premises as a lease.
I will take advantage of the knowledge that the National Academy of Fine Arts of Havana San Alejandro gave me to bring aesthetic and social vision to our productions under the trademark Staff Art, registered accordingly by the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets, he stressed. He said that his carpentry project -generator of marketable goods and services in a sustainable way- will enhance the use of endogenous resources, a purpose that stimulates the Cuban economic model in order to benefit both the local market and for export, from granting competitive quality to productions.
Marcoleta Tejeda has among its goals to become a small company for which as a limited liability company it must have a bank account, prepare financial balances, comply with the established labor regime and pay its taxes according to the legislation.
