The intervention with the vaccine candidate Abdala to 74 percent of the population of Isla de la Juventud will be from the second half of May, according to Víctor Doeste Hernández, coordinator of the municipal commission.
The doctor specified that this week the process will begin with the workers of the Public Health sector, as they are the group most at risk in the face of the pandemic.
Today the first batch of immunogens was received by air that will guarantee the first stage of the process, based at the Héroes del Baire general teaching hospital and in the three polyclinics of the territory, while the use of 34 clinical sites for the intervention is expected in 27 days to the population with the three doses, he pointed out.
He said that they will use school institutions distributed in the 10 Popular Councils to undertake until the month of June the intervention in a population distributed in three strata: over 60 years old, 40 to 59 years old and 19 to 39 years old (in that order and in three days for stratified group).
It is not a vaccination campaign, or a clinical trial in itself, although it is part of the accreditation process of the vaccine candidate, therefore, rigor in compliance with a group of principles is inviolable for science, he stressed.
He emphasized that at the time of injection of the vaccine candidate, the person must remain at the vaccination site for one hour to monitor for possible adverse reactions. Exclusions include those who suffered from COVID-19, individuals with acute infectious diseases, people with decompensated associated morbidities, patients suffering from cancer with immunosuppressive treatment, pregnant women, postpartum women and mothers with nursing children, he said.
Israel Velázquez Batista, municipal director of Public Health, stressed that among the actions undertaken in the country to face the pandemic, this moment stands out as the most momentous and with the greatest impact, especially due to the adverse scenario in which this process is taking place.
To this is added the molecular biology laboratory, where now the territory -without positive cases for COVID -19 more than 20 days ago- is concentrating on the population study of zero prevalence, which together with border control gives the security of maintaining at bay the SARS CoV-2 virus in the territory, he said.
