Natural and landscape resources reinforce this thesis - which together with food production, local industry, commerce, gastronomy and services, and the use of renewable energy sources - will support the portfolio of projects to benefit the quality of life of the more than 83 thousand inhabitants of the second Cuban island.
The purpose is to transform in a short period of time the reality of Isla de la Juventud, one of the few territories in Cuba without local development projects supported by the economic plan, said Carlos César Torres Páez, president of the Cuban Scientific Society for Local Development in the country.

These actions are part of the system for preparing cadres and reserves, and their design corresponds to the strategic priorities of the country, the Policy and Decree for Territorial Development, said the also member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.
Under the current scenario, the following stand out as pillars: the strengthening of science and innovation applied to all economic-productive processes, the mobilization of scientific-technical results and their generalization and the advances in computerization in business management, he said.
The also director of the Center for Studies of Management, Local Development, Tourism and Cooperativism of the University of Pinar del Río, pointed to social communication, as a vehicle to promote citizen participation in local development management processes.
The intention is that all training actions transform the current reality, the projects have expression in the 2022 economy plan, and the population ultimately appreciate the benefits of this training, emphasized the professor in Economic Sciences.
He said that in terms of productive economic development, the focus of sustainability and use of endogenous resources should prevail, guaranteeing the success of the ordering task to face the global economic crisis aggravated by the pandemic.
These actions -which will continue in the presentation of projects in the month of June- are carried out in a territory without local autochthonous transmission of COVID-19, a favorable situation for the realization of the processes of management and activation of chains at the territorial instance, he limited.
